Skin as reflection of our health, life, and happiness

Last night I had dinner with a friend that I had not seen in years, Dr Mike Escobedo of the Escobedo Skin Center of Austin. I first met Mike when he was an ER doctor 10 years ago. We are about the same age, both entrepreneurs in the Health and Wellness field, and both have so many 'irons in the fire' that we don't get to hang out nearly enough. As men we are not supposed to be concerned about our looks. Men supposedly grow old gracefully with titles like ruggedly handsome and distinguished looking. I turn 40 in a couple of days, and my skin is starting to give that away. This was made quite evident when Dr Mike walked in looking 10 years younger than me. I started drilling him with whats and hows. He started talking about Longevity Medicine, skin peels, medical spa services, hydration, and nutrition.  I had blown medi spa and skin care treatments off as superficial attempts to mask problems rather than treat underlying issues. And, I can come up with lots of examples to prove my point, but after hearing Dr Mike's approach to skin care I understood the reason he looks 10 years younger than me is because he practises what he preaches. The therapies and services he providers are 'more than skin deep'. I owe him an apology for thinking other wise.
