Tattooing and the Origins of Acupuncture

Has anyone ever herd that Tattoos may actually have influenced the development of Acupuncture? It is speculated that arrow wounds were tattooed after battle to draw more attention to them, and also to relieve the pre-existing pain that one may have been feeling. There is no real evidence that this theory may be true, however, a frozen body of a man was recovered and marks were found on his back. Shamans also used to practice healing through the use of tattoos by putting a symbol, which is supposed to ward away any disease or discomfort that the patient may be feeling. Who would have thought, body art which we now consider purely decorative was actually a healing method in early civilizations! I also find it intriguing that our modern culture has actually derived an alternative healing method very similar to what we now know as tattooing today. Who knows, maybe there really is a healing power in needles.
